BORACAY with Seniors and Kids: Top 8 Family Travel Tips
The team just wrapped up another Boracay trip, and this time, we brought the whole family — aunts, uncles, cousins, and even senior citizens! It is easily one of the most family- and senior-friendly destinations in the Philippines. While it is a small island, it has relatively good infrastructure and plenty of transportation options. Most attractions are easily accessible, requiring minimal physical effort compared to other islands where trekking or swimming is often necessary.

It’s no surprise why Boracay remains a top choice for family getaways. But that doesn’t mean everything will go smoothly without preparation. If you’re planning a trip with seniors or kids, keep reading! We’re sharing tips to make your Boracay family vacation stress-free.

1. Check in online for your flight.

Checking in online before heading to the airport is a huge time-saver and makes the whole process more convenient. Most airlines have dedicated counters for online check-in passengers, and these lines are usually shorter since many travelers still don’t use this feature. Less time standing in line also means less strain on your companions, especially seniors or those with knee problems.

However, seat selection matters. If you didn’t pay to reserve seats when booking, the airline will randomly assign them. If you want to sit together, it’s best to either pay for seat selection in advance or arrive early and ask the airline staff if they can arrange seats next to each other. They often accommodate requests if there are still available seats. Otherwise, there’s not much they can do. If you’re traveling with someone who needs assistance or it’s their first time flying, paying extra for seat selection can be worth it for peace of mind.

2. Avail of priority boarding.

Senior citizens and small kids get priority boarding, so they don’t have to wait long at the gate. When the airline announces priority boarding, head straight to the gate. They are allowed companions, but the number depends on the airline — usually just one per senior or child.

Don’t feel pressured when others rush to line up even before their assigned boarding zone is called. Just walk to the front confidently because passengers with seniors or kids always board first.

3. Collect the senior/student IDs.

After boarding, gather your companions’ senior citizen and student IDs, so you can handle the island transfer smoothly. When you arrive at Caticlan Airport, exit the terminal and head to the tricycle station. Each tricycle can only accommodate two people, and the fare per ride is P75.

Whether you’re going to Caticlan Jetty Port or Tabon Port, let your companions sit and rest first while you line up for the group. You have to present the following:
- Tourist Arrival Form. This is not a requirement per person, you only need one arrival form for the entire group.
- Hotel Booking. While no longer mandatory when traveling to Boracay, confirmed booking at an accredited hotel or resort is highly recommended, as staff at Caticlan Port may occasionally check and ask to see it. - Valid ID. These are typically government-issued IDs. It’s best to present school ID for students, senior citizen ID for seniors, and passport for foreign visitors.
Providing the school and senior citizen IDs is essential to avail of student and senior discounts. This can lead to big savings, especially when traveling with multiple seniors or children, as there are three fees to pay.

First is the terminal fee. The jump-off port to Boracay depends on the season. It could be Caticlan Jetty Port or Tabon Port. Next is the environmental fee, which has discounted rates for seniors and students, as well as a different rate for foreign tourists. Last is the boat fee. If you’re traveling with kids five (5) years old and below, they are exempted from fees. Just present a birth certificate if they don’t have an ID yet.

4. Assist them when getting on and off the boat.

The boarding process may vary depending on your port of departure and the type of boat you’ll be using. Typically, you’ll walk along a narrow gangplank or gangway to reach the boat. There’s a handrail for support, but it can still be tricky, especially if you’re carrying luggage. It may also sway slightly with the waves, so be sure to assist companions with mobility issues. We’ve even seen wheelchair users board with the help of the staff.

We also experienced boarding via a floating jetty when we availed of a resort’s transfer service. It was even more challenging for seniors and those with mobility concerns since the surface moves with every step. However, we’re not sure when exactly these floating jetties are used.

5. Consider multi-cab if you’re a big group.

When you arrive on the island, your next step is getting to your hotel. From the port, the usual option is an e-trike. It’s affordable, costing P15 – P50 per person for a regular trip where you share the ride with others, or P100 – P400 per trike for a chartered trip. The exact fare depends on the distance.

But if you’re with a big group, consider riding a multi-cab. A chartered ride to Station 2 costs P250 and can fit up to 10 people, making it a budget-friendly option at just P25 per person.

You can also charter a multi-cab for an island tour. E-trike land tours usually cost P500 per hour (good for 4 people), while we were charged P700 per hour for a multi-cab (good for 10 pax). We’re not sure if this is the standard rate since we haven’t heard back from official sources, but it was much cheaper than hiring multiple e-trikes or a van for a big group.

6. Check hotel location and amenities.

When booking a hotel for a trip with seniors or those with mobility issues, be sure to check its location. While Boracay is small, it is not flat. Some areas are uphill or farther inland. You don’t need to stay at a beachfront hotel. If you are traveling with seniors and people with mobility issues, we recommend booking near the main road for easier access to transportation. Staying close to the main road allows you to hail an e-trike easily, so you can get from Point A to Point B without long walks. This is much more convenient for seniors than walking on sand.

Aside from location, check the hotel’s amenities, especially if it’s a multi-story building. Make sure they have an elevator so elders won’t have to climb up and down the stairs.

7. Pick group-friendly accommodations.

What do we mean by group-friendly? It means the hotel offers rooms for groups and has special group rates. This helps you save more compared to booking multiple standard hotel rooms. Most hotel rooms are for two people, and you’ll have to pay extra for additional guests. So, look for accommodations designed for groups, even if it’s just for four people.

On our recent Boracay trip, we stayed at Azalea Boracay, where a two-bedroom suite for six people cost P6,900 — that’s just P1,150 per person. Plus, it’s a full-service hotel with free breakfast.

8. Bring senior ID when eating out.

Of course, Boracay’s food scene is one of the highlights of any trip to the island! If you’re dining out with senior citizens, don’t forget to bring their Senior ID to avail of discounts. Just present it before getting the bill to enjoy the savings.

Exploring Cappadocia with Kids: A Family Adventure

Cappadocia is one of Turkey’s most magical destinations, and it’s not just for adults. With its fairy-tale landscapes, underground cities, and hot air balloons, Cappadocia is a dream destination for families traveling with children. If you’re looking for the perfect base to explore the region, Uçhisar is an excellent choice.

This charming village offers stunning panoramic views, easy access to major attractions, and a quieter atmosphere compared to busier towns like Göreme. Here’s how you can make the most of your Cappadocia adventure with kids while using Uçhisar as your home base.

Why Stay in Uçhisar?

Uçhisar is the highest point in Cappadocia, offering breathtaking views of the valleys and fairy chimneys. It’s less crowded than Göreme but still close to all the major attractions. The town itself is home to Uçhisar Castle, an ancient rock fortress that kids will love exploring. Many of the hotels in Uçhisar are built into the rock formations, providing a unique experience that will delight children and adults alike.

We stayed at the Peristyles cave Hotel in Cappadocia, which has a great terrace from which to take the pictures of the balloons you see below. The breakfast is also fantastic!

One of the most iconic experiences in Cappadocia is watching the hot air balloons rise over the valleys at sunrise. While young children may not be able to go on a balloon ride (most companies have a minimum age requirement), watching them from the terraces of Uçhisar is just as magical. Many hotels in town offer early morning breakfast with spectacular balloon views, making for a memorable start to the day. This is what we did!

Explore Göreme Open-Air Museum

Just a short drive from Uçhisar, the Göreme Open-Air Museum is a must-visit for families. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a collection of ancient rock-cut churches adorned with well-preserved frescoes. Kids will love exploring the caves and learning about the history of early Christian settlements in the region. The site is relatively easy to navigate with children, though a stroller may not be ideal due to uneven terrain.

Horseback Riding in Cappadocia

We had always dreamed of exploring Cappadocia, but experiencing it on horseback with our kids made it even more magical. There are many horseback riding companies in the area, but very few of them allow kids under 12 to join them. One of the few that do is Moonlight Horse Ranch, a super friendly operator which made for great memories.

From the moment we saddled up, the landscape opened up in a way we could have never imagined—fairy chimneys, hidden valleys, and wide-open trails stretched as far as the eye could see. Our guide was incredibly friendly and made sure the horses were gentle and suited to each of our experience levels, especially for the kids. It felt like we had stepped into a storybook world, trotting past ancient rock formations and cave dwellings while the kids giggled and pointed out every new discovery.

What made the tour truly special was how family-friendly it was. The pace was relaxed, allowing us to enjoy the scenery and chat with each other along the way. We paused midway through to take in the view over a quiet valley, where the kids got off their horses and ran around for a bit while we took photos. It was one of those rare travel experiences where everyone, regardless of age, felt connected—to the place, to the moment, and to each other.

Adventure in Love Valley and Pigeon Valley

For families who enjoy the outdoors, a hike through Love Valley or Pigeon Valley is a great way to experience Cappadocia’s natural beauty. Pigeon Valley, in particular, is accessible from Uçhisar and offers easy trails that kids can manage, though watch out for heat during the summer days.

Along the way, you’ll see ancient pigeon houses carved into the rocks and stunning rock formations. If hiking isn’t an option, horseback riding tours are available and offer a fun alternative for exploring the valleys.

Discover the Underground Cities

Fun Things to do in Panama city (Panama) with Kids
Planning a family vacation can be exciting, but it’s essential to find activities that will keep both kids and adults entertained. Luckily, Panama City in Panama offers a wide range of family-friendly attractions and experiences that are sure to create lasting memories.

From exploring the historic Old Town to marveling at the engineering wonders of the Panama Canal, this vibrant city has something for everyone, including the little ones.

Let’s dive into the top things to do in Panama City (Panama) with kids!

Get lost in the Old Town (Casco Viejo)

Step back in time and wander through the picturesque streets of the Old Town, also known as Casco Viejo. This UNESCO World Heritage site is filled with historic buildings, charming plazas, and beautiful cathedrals.

Take a leisurely stroll as you admire the architecture and soak in the vibrant atmosphere, stop by the Plaza de la Independencia where kids can run around and enjoy the open space and make your way to the water front.

I must mention that while the area is perfectly safe during the day, some sections might seem otherwise once the sun goes down. If you’re visiting with kids you’ll be fine if you’re near the cathedral but might want to avoid wandering further.

Don’t forget to try some delicious local street food, ice cream, or enjoy some of the fine bakeries in the area!

Take a Bike Tour Along Amador Causeway

For an active and enjoyable family adventure, rent bikes and explore the scenic Amador Causeway, one of the top Panama activities to do with kids. This four-mile stretch of road connects Panama City to three small islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Enjoy stunning views of the city skyline and the ocean as you cycle along the causeway. Kids will love the feeling of the wind in their hair and the freedom to explore this picturesque area!

We did our bike ride tour with Dameslfly Tours, which we found when strolling along Casco Viejo. Our guide Nicolas was lots of fun, and the bike tour was great as well! Lasting over two hours, it took us around Old Town, along the Amador Causeway and all the way to Avenida Balboa.

On the way back we stopped for some ceviche (included in the tour) at the fishing marina. It was delicious!

Stroll Along Avenida Balboa

Inside, interactive exhibits captivate visitors of all ages, making it an excellent place for children to learn about the natural history and conservation efforts of Panama.

From colorful displays to educational games, the Biomuseo offers an engaging experience that combines education and entertainment.

Teo liked most the interactive representations of animals, including some that are extinct, as well as being able to touch rocks that are millions of years old and come from volcanoes.

Watch Ships at the Panama Canal

No trip to Panama City is complete without witnessing the marvel of the Panama Canal. Head to the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center, where your family can observe massive ships passing through the locks and learn about the history and significance of this engineering masterpiece.

Miraflores lock , located in Panama City, is a vital component of the famous Panama Canal. This lock is one of the three sets of locks that facilitate the transit of vessels through the canal, enabling them to traverse the elevation changes along its route. Miraflores lock features two chambers that raise or lower the ships by utilizing the force of water.

The lock operates by filling and emptying these chambers, allowing the vessels to smoothly transition between the different water levels. Its strategic position and efficient mechanisms make Miraflores lock a crucial element in facilitating international trade and maritime transportation.

With informative exhibits and a chance to see the canal in action, it’s an educational and awe-inspiring experience for kids and adults alike. Makre sure you don’t miss the 3D movie, though the information given in it is quite dated as it mentions the constructions of a new set of locks in the future…which have actually already been made and have been operative for a few years.

This said it is very well made, informative, and kids will love it! Our son Teo loved it so much that he wanted to watch it again, I was able to persuade a security guard and let us do so.

As a tip, you don’t really have to pay to see the canal and or docks. Further down the same road you take to get there you actually drive past the canal, and cross it with a bridge!

Have Fun with Monkeys on Monkey Island

Just a short boat ride away from Panama City lies Monkey Island, a sanctuary for these curious creatures. Set sail through the Gatun Lake and get ready for an adventure your family will never forget. On the island, you can witness different species of monkeys in their natural habitat, swinging from trees and playing with each other. Kids will love observing these adorable creatures up close and may even get the chance to feed them- as Teo did!

We did our tour with Barefoot Panama, a local company that has several tours to other attractions as well. The guide actually went the extra mile once the full tour was done and asked us if we’d like to have lunch at a local restauarant that he know of, and when all the group agreed we made our way there.

Remember, it’s essential to respect the wildlife and follow the instructions of the local guides to ensure the monkeys’ well-being.

Learn about Sloths at the Sloth Sanctuary

Panama is famous for its incredible biodiversity, and what better animal to learn about than the beloved sloth? Take your kids to the Sloth Sanctuary, where they can discover fascinating facts about these slow-moving creatures.

Observe sloths being rehabilitated before being released back into the wild and gain a deeper understanding of their conservation needs. This educational and heartwarming experience will surely be a highlight of your trip.

We visited the sloth sanctuary with Monkey Adventures, a local company that turned out to offer a fantastic service. The guide was very nice and the van was spotless! We also took the aerial tram right before visiting the sanctuary.

On this tram you float above the tree canopy and we got to hear a howling monkey! There’s also an observation deck with breathtaking views of the area, totall y worth making your way to the top.

Visit an Embera Tribe Village

Expand your family’s cultural horizons by visiting an Embera Tribe Village. Immerse yourselves in the rich traditions and customs of Panama’s indigenous people. Kids can participate in hands-on activities like traditional dance, crafting, and face painting, hear fascinating stories from the tribe members and gain a deeper appreciation for their way of life.

This unique cultural experience will leave a lasting impression on your entire family, and especially the younger ones!

There are several Embera villages, but there’s one just beyond the sloth sanctuary, only reachable by boat. The experience is totally worth it.

Eat Local Panama Food

No family vacation is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. Panama City offers a myriad of culinary delights that will tantalize your taste buds. From traditional dishes like ropa vieja to fresh seafood and tropical fruits, there’s something to please every palate.

Ropa vieja is a flavorful and popular dish in Cuban cuisine. This traditional recipe features tender and juicy shredded beef cooked with a variety of aromatic ingredients, including bell peppers, onions, garlic, and tomatoes. The name ” ropa vieja ” literally translates to “old clothes” in Spanish, which refers to the shredded appearance of the beef resembling old and tattered fabric.

Enjoy Your Hotel Pool

After a day of exploring, let your kids unwind and have some fun at your hotel’s pool. Many hotels in Panama City offer family-friendly amenities, including pools with water slides and play areas.

Take advantage of this relaxing time to bond as a family and reflect on the day’s adventures. Kick back in a lounge chair while the kids splash around, enjoying the warm weather and beautiful surroundings.

Where did we stay? We loved the Waldorf Astoria (check rates here), set in a superb location and offering pretty much anything you can think of while delivering top quality products and services.

This said, I do have to mention that what we loved most was the food. The room was certainly nice, as was the pool area and gym (I was training for an ultra trail marathon due a month after the trip), but if the food was unreal.
All the dishes were superb, but I do have to say that their version of the brownie is the best I’ve ever had anywhere (not kidding) and the buffet breakfast is one to enjoy slowly (which we couldn’t because of the tours!).

Tips for your Panama City Visit.

Use Uber better than taxis to get around. The trip will cost about a third and the cars are in better shape.

Panama is a safe city, but once the sun sets streets do get dark. Make sure you know where you are, or stay close to your hotel if traveling with kids.

There’s much more to Panama (city) than shopping. We met several couples and families that only had shopping in their plans because they thought there’s nothing else to do. Wrong!

These ruins are faily easy to reach and are easy to walk along. Teo loved being outdoors, making his way to the top of the hill, and seeing the llamas at the end of the path.

There’s also a superb restaurant on site, but it’s pricey and often full…

To delve deeper into history, explore the Museum of the Nation, where your kids can learn about Peru’s ancient civilizations through interactive exhibits.

Barranco is one of those bohemian neighborhoods that you often find in large cities. We walked here from Miraflores, though it did take about 45 minutes.

Here you can see the Bridge of Sighs behind us, which was closed for maintenance when we visited.

Also, stroll through the historic district of Miraflores, where you’ll find beautifully preserved colonial buildings and the stunning Plaza de Armas.

Larcomar, an ocean facing shopping center, is surprisingly an also great place where to hang out, eat good food, and enjoy magnificent views of beachfront Lima- plus plenty of shopping as well.

4. Culinary Delights: Foodie Experiences in Peru

One cannot visit Lima without indulging in Peru’s exquisite cuisine. Take your kids on a culinary adventure by trying traditional dishes like ceviche, lomo saltado, and anticuchos. Plan a visit to a local market, such as Mercado Surquillo or Mercado de Magdalena, where your family can sample fresh fruits, local delicacies, and perhaps even participate in a cooking class.

Of all the dishes I tried while in Peru, I really enjoyed Aji de Gallina, as well as different versions of Ceviche and eating Choclo con queso (corn on the cob with cheese) at the simplest stalls I could find.

Most of the time Lima is covered by clouds, but it literally never rains. So if you’re tempted to bring your umbrella leave it at home- disaster would strike if it did rain…there’s no water sewage !

Witness sea lions in their natural habitat, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot penguins and dolphins- we certainly did!. This adventure promises a unique and thrilling experience for the whole family, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.

We did our tour with Ecocruceros, a local , well reputed company that certainly delivered.

The tours starts from the harbor at Callao, in a neighborhood that is best avoided during most of the day. Once you got past the gates to the marina all is good though, and you can roam around with ease. Plus it’s nice too!

Once you reach the meeting point you are escorted to a small boat that will take you to the larger boat, and from there it’s a one hour trip to Palomino islands. The views on the way there are amazing, and the crew is very friendly as well.

Once you get close you’ll realize that there’s horrid smell. Well, that’s from the bird poop on the rocks, as well as that of the sea lions. The water is also cold year round, but wetsuits are provided should you want one.

You’re then invited to jump off and have some fun!

I do have to say that Teo did not enjoy the experience too much, mostly because of the water temperature. Despite using a wetsuit it was too cold for him. But once on board it was all fun and games again! Plus he loved seeing the animals from a distance too.

15. Join a Hop On/ Hop off Bus Tour

If you’ve read any other city article in this blog you probably know by now that ever since we had Teo I’m a big fan of hop on / hop off bus tours. They are a great way to visit a city without the little one getting tired. Plus, you get to visit the most interesting parts of the city without having to waste time figuring out where to go and how to get there.

We joined the tour with Turibus , a local company. The tour started at Lancomar and took us around the main attractions, however because of local unrest that had recently happened a few weeks before, the bus tour was not a hop on/ hop off experience and instead offered a guided walking tour of the Plaza de Armas at the end.

We were fine with that, and so was everyone on the bus! It was a great experience that I certainly recommend to anyone looking for things to do in Lima with kids.

One Week in Iceland Without a Car- With Kids!
I. Introduction

Welcome to Iceland, the land of fire and ice! If you’ve been dreaming of exploring breathtaking landscapes, immersing yourself in vibrant culture, and experiencing the unique natural wonders of this stunning country, you’re in for a treat. But what if I told you that you can do all this without the hassle of renting a car?

That’s right! This guide will take you through an exciting itinerary for one week in Iceland without a car, all while using public transport and guided tours. Buckle up, because we’re about to embark on an unforgettable journey!

II. Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavik

A. Getting to Reykjavik & Where to Stay

Your adventure begins as you touch down at Keflavik International Airport. The easiest way to get to Reykjavik from the airport is by taking the Flybus (35 EUR one way) or a shuttle service, which will whisk you away in comfort for around 100 EUR. Needless to say, we took the bus, but we eventually did need to grab a taxi for the last 10 minutes to reach our apartment adding up another 45 EUR and making the total cost the same as if we had used a taxi.

The ride takes about 45 minutes, and you’ll soon find yourself in the heart of the capital, ready to check in at your accommodation. If you have the budget, I recommend staying at a centrally located hotel or guesthouse, but they don’t come in cheap at all.

Another option is to stay at an apartment further away from downtown, which is what we did. Icelandic Apartments was our choice, and it worked out very well, The apartment was spotless, very spacious and cost about 1/3 of what hotel rooms in downtown Reykjavik run at.

Public buses work great in Reykjavik, and it would only take us about 30 minutes to reach our apartment from downtown including the bus change we had to do, which worked well anyhow because we could buy groceries there.

With kids, having space and access to a laundry goes a long way, and you get all of this at the apartments. There’s a grocery store within walking distance… and fantastic trails to go for a run like I did (let’s connect on Strava)!

B. Exploring the City

Once you’re settled in, it’s time to explore Reykjavik! Start your adventure with a visit to Hallgrimskirkja, the iconic church that dominates the skyline. The architecture is inspired by Iceland’s unique basalt columns, and the views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. Stand at the observation tower, and you’ll see the colorful rooftops of Reykjavik stretching out before you.

If you want to grab a bite , Cafe Loki is right besides and well worth stopping if you want to try traditional icelandic food- which you should! It’s small, busy and quaint, but perhaps the best place to sample local food-or so they say.

Afterward, take a leisurely stroll along Laugavegur, Reykjavik’s main shopping street. Here, you’ll find a mix of quirky boutiques, local artisan shops, and cozy cafes. Don’t forget to pop into a bakery for a delicious kleina (a traditional Icelandic doughnut) or a slice of pönnukökur (Icelandic pancakes)! Trust me; they’re worth every calorie.

III. Day 2: Cultural Highlights in Reykjavik

A. Harpa Concert Hall

On your second day, dive into Iceland’s rich culture by visiting the stunning Harpa Concert Hall. This architectural masterpiece, with its shimmering glass facade, is not just a concert venue but also hosts exhibitions and events throughout the year. If you can, catch a performance or simply wander around and admire the design. It’s a perfect blend of modernity and tradition.

B. SagaVR and FlyOver Iceland

Next, while in downtown, immerse yourself in Iceland’s stunning landscapes at SagaVR, where you can experience 3D landscapes of Iceland through virtual reality. It’s a fun and engaging way to learn about different parts of the country’s geography as well as the Northern lights. This experience is really a must-do for those who don’t have much time, can’t walk much for some reason, or find the prices of tours overwhelming- which they usually are.

Afterward, head to FlyOver Iceland, where you’ll embark on a thrilling ride that takes you over some of Iceland’s most breathtaking landscapes. You’ll feel the wind in your hair as you soar above glaciers, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes – it’s an experience you won’t forget! Unfortunately, no pictures are allowed…

C. The Lava Show

To wrap up your day of culture, don’t miss The Lava Show, where you’ll witness the incredible power of Icelandic volcanoes. The show features real lava and provides an interactive experience that’s both educational and entertaining. You’ll learn about the different types of lava, eruptions, and the impact of volcanic activity on the landscape.

It’s a fiery spectacle that left not only Teo in awe but was very entertaining for us too!

IV. Day 3: Nature Excursions

A. Perlan Museum

On day three, prepare for a mix of culture and nature at the Perlan Museum. This unique building features exhibits on glaciers, ice, and Icelandic nature. The highlight is the stunning observation deck that offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes. Don’t forget to check out the ice cave exhibit, where you can walk through a life-sized replica of a glacier!

B. Puffin Watching Tour

Later in the day, join a puffin watching tour from Reykjavik. These adorable seabirds are a must-see during the summer months. The tours typically take you to nearby islands where you can observe puffins in their natural habitat. Make sure to bring your camera; these little cuties are too charming to resist!

We did our tour with Elding, and have to say we had a blast! The boat was big and felt safe, the crew was great and the biologist who narrated everything during the tour was top notch.

It was a dream for Teo to see puffins up and close, as they had become his favorite birds since he started watching Puffin Rock on Netflix ever since he was 3 years old. I have to admit that these birds are adorable, and both Liza and I fell in love with them too!

V. Day 4: South Coast Adventure

A. Joining a South Coast Tour

Get ready for an action-packed day as you join a guided tour of Iceland’s stunning South Coast. Most tours will take you to iconic waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss.

Of all the companies that offer these tours, we decided to join Troll.is , not only because they have a cool name but because they seemed to have a cool vibe and be good at what they are doing. We were not disappointed!

Their south coast tour includes 4 stops:
- Seljalandsfoss
- Skogafoss
- Glacier trek at Solheimajokull
- Black Sand beach – Reynksfjara
At Seljalandsfoss, you can walk behind the waterfall for a truly unique perspective, while Skogafoss boasts a wide cascade that’s perfect for photography. Just be prepared to get a little wet!

After visiting the waterfalls, your tour will likely continue to the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara. Here, you’ll marvel at the dramatic basalt columns and roaring waves. This beach is often cited as one of the most beautiful in the world!

B. Glacier Trekking Experience

For the adventurous, many tours offer glacier trekking experiences on Sólheimajökull, where you can strap on crampons and explore the stunning ice formations. It’s a thrilling way to experience Iceland’s glaciers up close and we certainly did it during our tour with Troll.is!

Safety is paramount during this trek, and the team made sure everyone was well equipped. If you don’t have adequate shoes for the experience you can rent them on site.

Teo walked with the guide all the time, and was thrilled to be the first one of the group more often than not! The trek is about 30 minutes long and allows time for taking plenty of pictures.

VI. Day 5: Northern Lights and Local Cuisine

A. Aurora Museum

Day five is all about the wonders of the night sky! Start your day with a visit to the Aurora Museum to learn about the science behind the Northern Lights. The museum offers interactive exhibits that explain how this natural phenomenon occurs and the best times and locations for viewing.

It is owned by a couple who loves Auroras and have devoted their lives to observing and sharing their passion of the northern lights.

Chill out for some time in the cinematic viewing room and make sure your little ones follow the instructions to get their very own personalized diploma. It’s a great way to prepare for your evening adventure.

Speaking of adventures, you can’t leave Iceland without trying some local cuisine. For a true taste of Iceland, I recommend dining at Kol or Fish Market, where you can indulge in fresh seafood and traditional dishes like lamb soup and skyr. If you’re feeling adventurous, try some fermented shark – it’s a delicacy here! Just don’t say I didn’t warn you about the strong flavor.

A. Morning: Visit to the Blue Mosque

Kick off your Istanbul adventure with the must visit to the stunning Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Mosque). This iconic structure is famous for its beautiful blue tiles and six soaring minarets. As you approach, the mosque’s grandeur will leave you and your kids in awe. It’s a great way to introduce them to the architectural wonders of the world.

In fact Teo did actually get dizzy from watching, which we found kind of weird. However he was not bored at all and enjoyed it very much. So did we!
